Challenges and Solutions for Tile Applications

Ceramic and stone tiles are beautiful and durable surface coverings, but today’s construction environment presents a variety of unique installation challenges. This NON-PROPRIETARY Seminar will look at the history of tile installation and address both traditional methods and new technology.

Topics that will be covered will include tile membrane advancements, movement accommodation, and controversial issues such as mold and questionable shower assemblies. TCA Handbook details will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this program, the participant will be able to:

1) comprehend the challenges associated with tile and stone installations; and

2) recognize new areas of application that can be attained through the utilization of new installation technology.

Cynthia Cannon, Mark Jackson and Gregg Harding from City of Pensacola will participate in a panel discussion to review Sea Level Rise and Social Equity, the CRA Urban Overlay District, and historic preservation within the City. This event will include presentations by all three members of City staff, followed by a question and answer period.


Join AIA Florida Northwest as we tour the new Pleasant Grove Elementary School, scheduled to open for the spring 2023 semester. The happy hour following the conclusion of the tour is sponsored by Wharton Smith, Inc. and will be hosted at Gary's Brewery at 208 Newman Ave. We hope to see you there!

-We ask that each attendee please bring their own PPE to the hard hat tour. Closed toe shoes, hard hat, safety vest, and safety glasses are required on site. There will be limited quantities available to borrow in the trailer.

Calling all CANchitects and CANgineers! Assemble your build team and help us Demolish Hunger, Design Hope in this year's PensaCAN competition. 

PensaCAN is a competition where teams create impressive structures made entirely out of full cans of food. Following a week-long display of the structures and voting, all food is then donated to Manna for distribution to our neighbors in need in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Registration is open to ANYONE...architects, intern architects, engineers, designers, contractors, local businesses, professors, teachers, students, or anybody, anywhere, that wants to form a team and help the local community.

Do not have a team but still want to build? Register as an individual and we will match you up with a team!
