CALL FOR ENTRIES - DESIGN & HONOR AWARDS

Registration is now open for the 2023 Design & Honor Awards. This year's Design Awards jury is comprised of AIA members from California, including:

    • Gary Dempster, FAIA
    • Kate Diamond, FAIA
    • Michael Ellars, AIA
    • Diana Nelson, AIA
    • Alberto Lopez, AIA


Award winners will be recognized at the Design & Honor Awards Reception on September 14 at 5eleven Palafox.


Design Awards:

The entry fee for each submittal is $50, and there is no limit on the number of entries you may submit. The fee goes up to $75 after May 12, 2023. First, register online. Once your registration and payment has been received, all templates and submittal information will be emailed to you. Submittals must be completed by June 9, 2023.

    • Last day to register without a late fee is May 12, 2023.
    • Last day to register is June 2, 2023.
    • All submissions/nominations are due June 9, 2023.
    • There will be no extensions to these deadlines


Honor Awards:

There is no fee to make an honor award nomination. Nominations are due by June 2, 2023, with submissions due June 9, 2023.

    • Last day to make a nomination is June 2, 2023.
    • All nomination submissions are due June 9, 2023.

AIA EXTRA

AIA Extra: Historic Preservation Overview

Led by Ross Pristera, this course is an overview of historic preservation, intended to assist architects as they begin to examine and address historic building projects in our area.

  • Understanding Historic Preservation and why it is beneficial to the community. Attendees will learn the basics of historic preservation, terms commonly used, and the impact historic preservation has within a community.
  • Understanding the importances of knowing the history of a building, site, and neighborhood. Attendees will learn the resources available when researching a historic property and why research is beneficial.
  • Review the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and Architectural Review Board requirements. Attendees will be able to identify and understand the ten SOI standards and how to properly apply the standards to their historic preservation projects. They will also learn what is required in the five different ARB review districts.
  • Learn when to restore, replace, or use an alternative material on a historic structure, while maintaining the integrity of the building.

Feeling busy, “whelmed,” overwhelmed, or over-overwhelmed in all the work of work and life? Feel like adding anything on top of it all would be the straw that broke the camel’s back?

When you’re busy balancing modern work and life it can feel like growth in your career or business is elusive… but often there’s a better way—and it involves learning to take back your time so you work smarter not harder on the things that really matter.

In this training led by Maya Sharfi of Build Yourself, you’ll learn how to take back control over your time and communicate your boundaries. She’ll share top strategies for freeing up time and working smarter not harder. You’ll learn to reclaim your focus and your ability to grow into the career or business you want.

Did you know that AIA Florida Northwest has funds available for scholarships to augment the participation costs in community leadership development programs that exist within our chapter region? Our intent is:  1) to increase the numbers of our members engaged in these programs, 2) to obtain tools, insights and relationships that will benefit our profession as a whole, and 3) to then create connections within our chapter communities demonstrating the value of architects in leadership roles.

We fuse lighting and architecture to create an experience that exceeds basic fundamental lighting needs and reinforces the architecture, brand and environment. We know lighting. Lighting impacts us every second of our lives and we believe that impact should be meaningful and beneficial. 

From boutique hotel, residences to mixed-use, urban-scale master plan initiatives, we illuminate the built environment, create desire and, most importantly, add unforeseen value.
